acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medicine used by man, its origins dating back thousands of years to China and East Asia. Acupuncture is part of an integrated system of health care known as Traditional Chinese Medicine. At Hatch Therapies we incorporate modern evidence based ideas with time proven traditions, aiming to provide you with the highest quality treatment possible.

Acupuncture is the practise of inserting very fine needles into one or more acupuncture points located at specific locations on the body. There are hundreds of acupuncture points all used for different health imbalances. The acupuncture points are selected according to your symptoms, based on your body’s individual pattern of disharmony. The aim of the acupuncture is to relieve symptoms and restore balance to your system in attempt to prevent the symptoms recurring in the future. The needles are inserted and then retained in the body while you lie down and relax.

fertility

In Traditional Chinese Medicine being in harmony with nature is considered of great importance. In fact following the rhythms of nature is considered a prerequisite for health and wellbeing. The female body should have a natural monthly cycle. Each month from puberty to menopause the female body prepares for the opportunity to conceive a child. To be effective a sequence of specific events must occur within the body with accurate timing. These events are governed by the brain and hormones. When this natural sequence of events is disrupted symptoms begin to emerge and conceiving a baby may become difficult.

At Hatch Therapies our aim is to promote and nurture the natural processes of the female cycle. There are four main stages of the menstrual cycle. The first is the period followed by the follicular phase when a follicle develops. Next ovulation occurs and the follicle is released for the opportunity to unite with sperm. The luteal phase is the final stage when a pregnancy may occur. There are different acupuncture points and herbs that can be used in attempt to promote each of these stages. In doing so we aim to enhance and support natural processes, encouraging better health and wellbeing.

At Hatch Therapies we encourage anyone planning to have a family to take a few months to prepare the body. Treatment can be conducted to support the different phases of the menstrual cycle in preparation for pregnancy. If you are having problems conceiving due to medically diagnosed or undiagnosed health issues supporting the menstrual cycle with treatment may help to correct the imbalances.

pregnancy

At Hatch Therapies we are experienced in providing treatment during each stage of pregnancy. Acupuncture and massage are two treatment modalities that are commonly used throughout pregnancy. At each stage of your pregnancy your needs will differ so your treatment will also adapt as your body changes.

In the beginning stages of pregnancy Acupuncture may be effective in supporting your body through the initial changes. For many women the first trimester can be an anxious wait. We use acupuncture treatment protocols commonly used in Traditional Chinese Medicine for hundreds of years that may support your pregnancy. We aim to promote relaxation with soothing massage and a calming acupuncture points. At this stage morning sickness, headaches and tiredness are concerns we commonly address.

In the later stages of your pregnancy the baby is growing placing high demands on your body. Various aches and pains may start to emerge including back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, pelvic instability and oedema. We would generally use a combination of acupuncture and massage in attempt treat such discomforts.

The position of the baby may start to become a concern for you. Acupuncture and the use of a herbal stick called Moxa (Ai Ye Mugwort Leaf) may be used with a goal of turning a breech baby. Research conducted in China has suggested a 80-90% success rate (Cardini & Huang 1998) Research also suggests the best time to conduct this treatment is around 34 weeks but it can be done at other times.

From 36 weeks we usually recommend weekly consultations. These treatments are aimed at preparing your body for birth with a goal of relaxing and softening ligaments, aiding cervical dilation, nourishing energy and calming the mind. We usually use a combination of Acupuncture and Massage in what can be a very nurturing and regenerative experience. Then from 40 weeks Acupuncture can be used with a goal of inducing labour

IVF SUPPORT

We understand that for many people the quest to have a baby is often a difficult journey. At Hatch Therapies we are experienced in providing support to couples and singles using fertility treatment such as IVF. Our goal is to promote general health and wellbeing which may assist the fertility process and enhance IVF treatments. We also hope to make your IVF experience more pleasant and comfortable.

There is growing evidence that Acupuncture may increase the chances of success with IVF. At Hatch ideally we would recommend that you commence acupuncture treatment prior to an IVF cycle. We do however understand that this is not always possible and will provide support ant any stage of the IVF process.

At Hatch Therapies we are experienced in providing Acupuncture before and after the embryo transfer, this is a process that has been shown to improve implantation rates. Acupuncture before the transfer aims to prepare the uterus for implantation, also to calm your mind and settle pretransfer nerves. Acupuncture after the transfer aims to encourage implantation and prevent uterine contractions in order to avoid rejection of the embryo. It involves the use of a series of acupuncture points traditionally used for many hundreds of years.

Hatch Therapies uses Acupuncture treatment protocols for IVF support that are highly recognised throughout the world within the Acupuncture profession. So you can feel confident that you are receiving the very best care.
